I’m just getting my feet wet with the multicam feature in FCP5. I’ve completed the tutorial, and read the manual, but there’s one thing I want to do that I can’t find in the documentation. Most of my projects are 2-camera shoots with four audio sources, two from each camera. What i want to do is create a multiclip which will place all four audio tracks on the timeline, in sync, which I can mix independently, after I’ve switched the video. Unless I’m missing something, you can only select the audio source for your multiclip from one camera or angle at a time, so, in my case, when I drop the multiclip onto the timeline, I only have the audio from one camera. In order to get my other two tracks of audio, I have to add and sync those independently. Is there a more ellegant way to do this?

    What was that, Andy?

    Chris,

I’m stuck in the same spot. We shoot two tracks of audio per camera and have a different talent microphone going to each track. I need to keep my audio tracks all intact and only edit the video. Sure I can drag the audio down to the timeline separately and re-sync it all back up after the multi-cam edit, but that seems like a lengthy work around for what is surely something simple I’m missing. If you figure something out please drop me a line.

    Don,

I’m surprised that I haven’t had more responses to this post. I guess it’s too new. I did notice that one of the illustrations in the manual shows four tracks of audio on the timeline, so I figure that it’s something I’m not understanding, but I just don’t get it.

If you need all the tracks from all the cameras in parallel then you have to put them in the timeline, then add the multiclip and make the multiclip cut just the video and not the audio.

Ok, Tom, let me make sure I’ve got this right. Assuming I’m not working with matching timecode, I set in-points first, then drop my audio tracks on the time line, then make my multiclip, and place that on the timeline, with audio targets de-selected. Will it automatically sync to the audio?

If you mark in points on your audio and put those in the timeline. Then make a multi-clip syncing the video using in points. Presumably these match the in points on the audio. When you put that in the timeline it should match the audio, assuming it was all shot, and marked correctly.
