Working in FCP HD 4.5, various G5s, OSX 10.3.9 on a documentary series…

We are using labels to identify clips with various footage house sources (to determinte show costs)

As we continue to cut, labels (as set in the browser) fail to be reflected in the timeline. This makes counting our footage from the timeline based on color impossible. In tests, the labels seem to hold up fine in smaller projects but reliably fail (on various systems) when used on the hour-long episode.

Any known bugs, workarounds, or suggestions?

There’s a small triangle button (fifth button over from the left side on the bottom of the Timeline Window) you need to click on to reveal the option to show clip lables in the Timeline window… must be turned on. Is it?

Labels do work properly. Implementing them proper is a user error either based on not activating the display or trying to apply them to clips in the Browser and expecting them to appear on user-defined independent clips in the timeline.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
