  Importing DVD footage into Final Cut Pro

  Hi,

  I want to import footage from a 10 minute DVD into Final Cut Pro to edit. It’s not copyright protected, just a friend’s demo reel. I have been able to copy the disk to my hard drive and watch it with DVD Player, but Final Cut Pro won’t recognize it, even though it is in MPEG-2 format. I have been able to import tutorial footage into FCP before from DVD with no
  problem. What’s going on? When I click on the disk, I get Video TS files. I try to import those with no success by dragging. Thanks for any insights.

  DVDxDV. Costs $25 and can be found at http://www.lafcpug.org in the store.

  Is there any other way to import from DVD or is a third-party software the only way?

  You can route the DVD player thru your camera and either record it to a DV tape (if it is a commercial copy protected DVD the camera won’t allow you to do this) or if the camera supports play-through you can capture the signal directly into FCP.
