  xdcam mpeg4 transfer / import to media100

  Mac os x10.6.8 2X2.4 GHz Quad Core 24GB
  media100 ver.2.0.1 quicktime – 10.0

  Hello,
  I need advice about getting mp4 xdcam files to the media 100.
  I got xdcam transfer installed but it seems I lack some more
  plugins or codecs to complete the installation. I am missing most of
  the the software components. What Quicktime pro do I need, and which
  QT player ?

  You should install the Apple ProApps codecs. I´ve written an instruction how to do this here. Since you are running Suite 2.01 I guess you are on OSX 10.6.x? I got feedback that these new versions of the ProApps codecs don´t work with 10.5.x, so if you are on an older OS version let me know.

  Thanks, It’s already installed and transferring to qt, but it seems that I still need
  Quick time pro. I have qt 10 player and it does not gives the
  possibility to export to m100. Is that the solution?

  Once the files have been re-wrapped to .mov, this is very quick. You can then import them into M100 and transcode to Prores or any other M100 supported codec.

  It is a 2 step process. Use Sony XDcam transfer to re-wrap and then import into M100 in M100.

  There are other work flows as well but this is the simplest way.

  Actually Olof it’s a one step process surely? Open Transfer with your Media 100 Project and Bin ready, select or trim an EX clip and import directly to your Media 100 Bin. Provided your codec (ProRes, Media 100 or whatever) is already specified the clip will come in as that codec.

  You should open the Transfer software from within Media 100 (File->Import->XDCam). Then the XDcam Transfer settings will be set correctly to automatically import the files into Media 100.

  Thank you all for your kind help. Every thing is working fine and I have the xdcam
  clips in my media100 time line.
  I have another question – my project is m100 hd 1080i.
  I want to use dv pal 720×576 in the time line and to keep it
  in the original size .(not upscaling to hd). I need to make a split screen
  with several clips from dv material.
  Is that possible?

  Wit Suite 2 this is pretty easy. Drop your DV Clips into a HD Timeline and go tothe Motion Editor. Set the Selection Values to 1920 and 1080 in the Pan&Scan section, which should give you 100% on the left side of the control fields.

  Thanks again. By the way, when I imported xdcam files with Media 100HD codec the files became enormous. 82 GB became 1.85 TR.Is that normal?
  Is there a way to keep the size lower? Do you recommend using a different codec ? That is my first project editing on media 100hd using
  xdcam files and not a tape based material.

  You definitely should give ProRes 422 a try. Media 100 HD codec is uncompressed, therefore pretty big. ProRes is compressed, but with great quality for its data rate
