Time FX Clips Disappearing
Posted by Robert Stone on August 11, 2009 at 8:11 amMedia 100 Suite – Many Time FX clips are appearing BLACK after rendering. Cannot export for DVD mastering as many Time FX clips, although not turning black, end up freezing weird, etc.

Are you creating and rendering in the bin or on the time line?
Try creating the Time FX Clip, cutting it to the V1 track and then rendering.

August 11, 2009 at 3:00 pmAloha Matthew,
These clips were created on the timeline. Existing project that was fine in 13.0.2 – In Media 100 Suite are showing up as black.
Thanks and Blessings,
Bob

August 11, 2009 at 5:55 pmTry un-rendering the clip, moving it up to the V1 track, then render it there…does it work in the V1 track?

August 11, 2009 at 9:02 pmAloha Matthew – Thanks.
I went to a different (shorter) project, tried rendering in A and B (gave me the wrong footage rendered)
moved to V1 and rendered properly. Moving the rendered clip back to the A/B timeline did not work. This is in Version 13.0.2 now. There seems to be fewer rendering problems, but we need to find a workable solution. I am working on a 4.5 HOUR documentary with obviously thousands of clips with
several hundreds being off-speed. My partner is ready to shoot me!!! (I’m the techie!!)Blessings,
Bob

August 12, 2009 at 3:02 pmAs of right now using V1 is the only workaround I know of. I’ll keep you posted.

August 29, 2009 at 5:17 pmI’ve been experiencing similar issues with Time/Motion Fx since installing v12.x. This was my first step in upgrading from 8.2.
From day one, Time Fx have been a pain: most of the times, when rendering, picture is wrong, like rendering from different TC. Worse, sometimes, rendering these FX diplays still for the first few frames and then starts, etc.
Of course there’s a bunch of work arounds for these problems and one of those is to NOT render these time fx, if you can Use Preview Online, and try, if needed, to export using Other – QuickTime Movie and choose Option – your Preferred Codec (I usually go for Media 100 NTSC/PAL 720, like a Self Contained Movie) and then go to Compressor or Bit Vice to Encode for DVD. Also very usefull to output unrendered FX for client approval through QuickTime downoads.
But, of course we need to find our way out of these situations that slow down our Workflow.

Out of curiosity. Are you running media off of FireWire drives?
We(Media 100) are currently looking into this issue.
If you are running FW drives removing the drives or working with media on the internal drives and rendering to the internal drives should work.
If you could test this and report back it could help us identify the issue.
You can post here or e-mail support@media100.com
Thanks

Unfortunately, this is not the case. Media 100 app runs off the internal startup disk where I have M100 progs and bins located in the Document Folder. Media files are acquired and transitions rendered on 2 internals Western Digital striped as an array volume.
The real big deals for me, as stated before, are, when both Render All or manually rendered clips, result in playing the first frame of Clip as “still/freeze” (CTI moving) for half a second, let’s say, and then showing the actual fast/slow motion. The Still frames are actually part of the Purple Clip which is a non sense. The other problem I have is when doing the same task, creating a fsst/slow FX on a clip, the rendered Clip shows a totally different TC (different content) of the same Source clip. There is no workarounds for the later, except going back to the source clip in the bin (sometimes re-import from the drives even) redo the FX then from the bin 4,5 even6 times before it works to finally replace the Purple Clip in the Program.
I thought at first I was affected by corruption of some kind, but after a clean reinstall of system and Apps I can’t figure out. Are all users experiencing these problems? Have you been able to replicate these issues at Media 100?
Curiously, exporting a program SELF CONTAINED with FX Preview Online gives same problems in the resulting quickTime file. BUT, as mentionned before, exporting a program from Export-Other-QuickTime Command in a M100 Codec, Animation or H.264 works fine for me.
