All the stations in this market are starting to ftp spots instead of tape dubs. We use 2 systems for editing here at the station, I use a Media 100 i 7.5 running os9.2 G4 dual 800 (yes, I know I should upgrade, but it has been working rock solidly for 5 years and I’m comfortable with it) the other system is an FCP osx etc. Can I convert spots to be uploaded to an ftp site from the media 100. I use Cleaner vs.5 to make windows media files for client spot approval, but my version does not include mpeg 4, and I think that’s what I need. Can I upgrade Cleaner, or is it a lost cause on the media 100 system.

    thanks in advance

    Hi Pat,

It’s not a lost cause by any means. If your OSX FCP system is PPC then you can download the media100 software codecs and install them there. You could then export as a selfcontained file from media 100 and use Compressor to make your Mpeg4s (or QT Pro etc etc). You would have to be careful over Media 100’s colourspace (the old 16-235 versus 0-255) but it is certainly doable.
