I need to cast a shadow on to a layer that will be invisible in my composition. How?
In the picture below i have used a blue solid to do what i want to do but i dont want the blue there, just the shadow of the bike! Ive used a null object in the same place to serve the same purpose but no shadow is cast.

Can anyone help? Im sure its really simple.

For your “shadow catcher” layer, use a white solid, set its mode to Multiply, Accepts Shadows = On, Accepts Lights = Off.

Strangly i did try this with the blue solid and thought ‘maybe if i change it to white’ but i thought id ask on here. Thanks a lot mate, works a treat! 🙂

You could also make a copy of the bike, add the fill filter and set to black, add gaussian blur, change to 3d layer and position as needed….
