  • RealTimeFX and graphic card on media 100

Posted by Macmauro on October 25, 2005 at 12:56 am

    Hi
    I have media 100 lx-dv, version software 8.2.2, vincent 601
on mac G4 1,25 dual, Mirrored Drive Doors
    1,5 GB ram
    and boris red 3,2

I’m deciding to buy a RealTimeFX card
here in Italy costs 1,750 euro
a big price for which i need help to decide

how much does it improve the rendering time?
a rendering effect that now takes 45 min. by software
how much it will take by RealTimeFX?
    Speedness is the only advantage?

    second card question :o)

i have a graphic card Ati radeon 9000 pro with 64 mb ram
    not enought fast
i desperately search a 128 mb at less
    AGP 4x card
    is hard to find
the only i found are selled at high price and out of europe (300 dollars for Nvidia Geforce Ti)
i can’t buy a PCI card if i need the relative slot for RealTimeFX card
Ati is just now producing the Radeon 9600 pro Mac & PC version at 256 mb
but it’s no tested for media 100, and is for me a risk

    Does someone have any suggestion?
    thanks

[macmauro] “a rendering effect that now takes 45 min. by software how much it will take by RealTimeFX?”

45 Minutes. The HDRFX/realtime effects board only does play back the “FastFX” in realtime. On the systems without the HDRFX board FastFX are only played back without fields, looking somewhat jittery. With the HDRFX board these effects can be played back with full resolution and both fields. But for processor-based effects (like Red or non-FastFX) there is no change in the rendering time.

    thank you for your answer
this means i should pass to a software which doesn’t use cpu
for apply effect? Does the new media 100 softwares-editing systems work so?
In this way i could avoid waiting for hours to apply effects? Have you some suggestion?

    thanks

    thanks, you was very clear

the best part of effects i mean are in boris red hosted by media 100, is on these graphic clip that i spend a lot of time. Now, after your help, i can image to upgrade my media 100 i system to be compatible with G5 (buying a G5 at same time), or, in opposite way, think about passing to a sw or hd m100, in both case I have to inform about costs.

    Thanks a lot
    and at last:
how much the graphic card (mine is ati radeon 9000 pro 64 mb) affects rendering time or preview of effects?

    M.
