I was just wondering if anyone has an idea how they did the demon faces on the movie Ex of Emily Rose? Could this be done in AE? Anyone tried?

I actually worked post production on this movie and as part of my job had to go back and forth to Captive Audience (the effects house) many many times throughout the whole post process. The majority of the effects, if not all of them, were done using after effects. I couldn’t tell you exactly what they did to achieve them, but I do know that after effects was used extensively.

Excellent. Now, if someone could chime in on how they think it was done, it would get the ball rolling for me!

I’m going to take a wild swing at this, but I’m guessing that most of the faces were hand modeled in 3D or and there was a slight morph between the original face and the new 3D face using the RESHAPE tool in the distort menu.

Then of course alot of masks and displacement maps to add to the skittiness of the faces and the black distorted stuff around the eyes and outlines and the such.

How do I go about using the RESHAPE tool for this?

The shots in emily rose are really short, wouldn’t the company have just used AE’s liquify filter?

Graham, how would you go about this with liquify? I saw your site and realised you did something similar with Mummy Unbound (I have sent you an email). Did you morph with the man/skeleton? Was it greenscreened or just careful masking?
