a customer from nearly a year ago has resurfaced and has asked for a few minor changes to their DVD (I’m in the wedding biz). what are my options for re-digitizing the footage from the master DVD? sorry for the newbie status of this question, but i thought i’ve heard about software that can look through the audio_ts and video_ts folders and “re-create” them as quicktime (or something else) files.

what have you all done in the past?

    thanks!

[Jeffrey Stoner] “what have you all done in the past?”

Backed up my original material 😉

You can extract the DVD MPEG2 stream to Media 100 codec with e.g. MPEG Streamclip. But obviously you will lose quality by going from MPEG2 to Media 100 i codec and back to MPEG2. Or you can digitize the DVD from your DVD player (also with losing quality).
If you are on OSX make sure you have installed the Software Codec to speed up your MPEG2->Media 100 i conversion.

I use cinematize 2 for this. Works great. Check out http://www.miraizon.com
