  Mask effects in Essential Graphics

  So I’m trying to achieve this effect in Premiere Pro’s Essential Graphics by having a grouped invert and mask on top of the text and highlight box, turning the text black without changing the actual text colour.

  

  However when I put the invert effect into a group, it no longer affects what’s underneath it, resulting in no effect.

  If I leave the effect ungrouped, the shape layer masks everything, rather than just the effect.

  Is there any way to make a grouped effect and shape layer mask work in the way I want it to? Let me know if anything is unclear.
