Premiere and Encore CS6 is gone? What the #%$?
I went to install Encore CS6 on a new PC today, and can’t find a way to do it. I understand Adobe is killing access to old software, but I assumed they’d leave the Encore link open somehow. Did I assume wrong?
Alternatively, if I buy CS6 on Ebay, will I even be able to activate it?

Every hardware and software manufacturer licenses technology from other companies and developers. The legal terms of these agreements vary and aren’t indefinite. This particular situation has a lot of speculation swirling around it, since there may or may not be an ongoing lawsuit.
In any case, Adobe isn’t the only company affected and may not be the last. And that could relate to any part of any given application. Remember you never own any software that you purchase. You only bought the right to use it under the limitations of the terms and conditions agreement ☺

All very true.
However, if I had some warning, I would have made sure I had Encore on every system where I might need it.
Purchased CS6 on Ebay as a backstop.
For the future, what do people use besides Encore these days? Anything more user friendly than Scenarist?

Well, Adobe hasn’t been supporting any legacy software for some time. They have only left it available up until recently. Encore being the last of the batch, because enough people screamed. The general consensus – right or wrong – by software manufacturers, is that physical consumer media (CD, DVD, Blu-Ray) is dead and, therefore, they have quit catering to those needs. I realize there’s still a need in many circles, but obviously everyone’s direction is towards cloud and streaming.
In my case, I have still been able to author basic (play once or with simple chapters) DVDs and Blu-rays using FCPX. Works fine.
And just to play devil’s advocate, any software you purchased on e-bay most likely does not have a valid license (even if you have a valid activation code), because you didn’t purchase it from Adobe or an authorized reseller. I don’t know that for a fact, but if you were to be in a lawsuit (highly, highly unlikely), I doubt you could win. I’m not sure that’s ever been tested, though. But, I’m not a lawyer and don’t play one on TV ☺

Since I author BDs once a year, I would hang on for dear life with my Encore.
I haven’t found an app that can do pop-up menus. -
I’ve never used the Vegas suite, but DVD Architect is still part of the package now that Magix owns them.

I understand the software maker’s postion that “physical media is dead,” I can accept that rationally. But I still want a program that works for my clients and the occasional Blu-ray screening.
Ok. Looks like DVD Architect is $99 for one license/install. Also does Blu-ray.

I’ve seen comments about receiving a clarification e-mail. I haven’t personally seen these e-mails, so take it FWIW.
Basically, if you purchased CS6 as a product before CC and have a separate End User License Agreement for it, then you are in the clear. However, if you downloaded CS6 products through CC, then you are subject to the CC End User License Agreement. In that case, the notification does apply to those CS6 (and earlier) users.
