How would I do this?
I am new here and just learning premiere pro. I have a handwritten letter and I want to lift a certain section of the letter off the page and bring it forth. Is this something premiere pro can do? How would I do it?

Hi Jennifer,
Put the image of the letter onto V1 track. Put another copy directly above on V2. Mute the V1 track (click the eyeball thingy) to hide image. Apply CROP effect to V2 clip and crop the 4 sides down so you only have left the desired section of text. Background will appear black around cropped text.
Turn V1 on again so you see entire letter. Since V1 and V2 show the exact same source, should not notice the crop of V2 which is actually floating above the V1 image as its own layer. Now use the MOTION effect to SCALE the V2 image.
Use keyframes to make the text expand when you want, to the size you want, at the speed you want. Do a web search of “keyframing in Premiere” for tutorials. Start here – https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/motion-position-scale-rotate-clip.html
Simple stuff like this does not require AE, you can do quite a bit in Premiere

You’re welcome. And once you get comfortable with the basics, you can take it further. For instance, apply Color Correction to the V1 (background) image, and via keyframes, make the background get darker when the foreground text zooms in, to make it stand out from background.
Or same thing using BLUR effect, keyframe to soften background on cue to make selected text stand out. Lots of fun things to do.
