Dynamic Titles/Open Captions in Premiere Pro/After Effects
Hi all, I’ve looked up a bunch of posts on this forum and haven’t found an answer to my question so thought I’d post my own.
I’ve been looking into making dynamic text that pops up over video, timed to speech happening in the clip. Here’s an example:

Essentially what this does is subtitle the video, but each word is synched to the audio. The way I’ve been doing it is writing out the whole line of text, and then cropping it out piece by piece so each part of the sentence is revealed in time with when that word is spoken.
Is there any automated process of doing this? The closest I’ve found is the open captions tool in premiere pro which would work perfectly for me, however I can’t find a way to edit the kerning of the text (which is essential, unfortunately.) Anything similar at all? I’ve heard of using the Typewriter preset in after effects but would I be able to time it to audio faster than the cropping method I’ve been using? Thanks in advance for any help!
