  MXF OP1a export for broadcast

  Hi, I have a project that I need to export for broadcast. As the schedule is quite tight, I would like to get it right on the first time. Can someone let me know what are the exact settings for the following requirements?

  Video:
  File Container – MXF OP1a (SMPTE 378M)
  Codec Sony – XDCAM HD422
  Chroma format – 4:2:2
  Bit Rate – 50mbps
  Display Resolution – 1920 x1080
  Frame rate – 25fps (501
  Scan Mode – Interace, top field first
  GOP – IBBP (Length: 12) – Sequence header on each GOP – First GOP closed
  Aspect Ratio 16:9

  Audio:
  Format – AES – 3 (SMPTE 382M)
  Audio Essences – 8
  Channel per essences – 1 (Mono)
  Sampling rate – 48Khz
  bit depth 24bit
  Dynamic Range – Between -20dbfs and -10 dbfa
  Loudness – Normalise at -21db

  The video settings are pretty straight-forward. You should be able to set those in your export window. You’ll probably just want to make sure your chroma and luma levels are broadcast safe.

  Audio can be a little tricky. I would bring your final audio mix into Audition, so you can easily normalize the audio. I like to use the Match Loudness feature to automatically bring everything into the broadcast legal range. You’ll want to have a good sounding mix first though. You can use the Loudness Radar in Premiere or Audition to help adjust your mix manually. Keep in mind that with stereo exports, I believe Premiere may export 3db louder, so do a test export (you can check it with the Amplitude Statistics or Loudness Radar in Audition) and if that’s the case, just drop your levels -3db in Premiere and you should be good. Premiere also has a Loudness Normalization box in the export window, but I’ve had mixed results with that.

  Is there a specific preset for the video I should use?

  I wasnt sure what to put for
  GOP – IBBP (Length: 12) – Sequence header on each GOP – First GOP closed

  And where I can change the Bit Rate

  MXF OP1a is a pretty strict codec. Pretty much the only setting you can change is whether the file is interlaced or progressive. You don’t need to bother with anything else.

  There are system presets for MXF OP1a in AME. Just scroll down to the one that matches your listed requirements. There’s an XDCAM 50mbps 25fps 1080 preset.
