  • How to achieve 5.1 audio out on an iMac?

Thinking of buying a new iMac but I can’t seem to find any definitive answer about how to achieve 5.1 output in premiere as I currently do on my pc.

I even saw a video on YouTube where a guy used a 3.5 to optical cable (!) to easily achieve 5.1 from his imac which I assume can’t be right!

You need an external audio or I/O device that can output 5.1. Then set it up in the audio hardware preferences.

Can you recommend a particular one? Does this connect with USB? Would speakers connect directly to it or do I then have to optical out to my existing surround sound kit?
