Hi Ellen…
not to complicate things….
Media Browsers best use cases are really
1) looking at structured media types like:
.MTS files (that can appear contained with a single quicktime)
P2
XDCAM
RED
Where material is created by pieces of elements in a set of folders
2) looking wintin other Adobe PPro or AE projects to import sub sets of material to your current project (like sequences, bins or compositions)
For standard file types:
.mov, .mp4, .aif, .wav all sorts of image types
your file system is probably a much better tool for location media assets
One tool that Adobe does make that can help here is Adobe Bridge…
Something that can help you specifically in Bridge is something called “Collections”….
As you find project related items in the files system, which could be scattered around the file system…
A collection allows you to create a “container” where you can find all the related items, but they don’t have to move from wherever they are located on the drives.
Think of it like a BIN in Ppro….but outside PPro….
there’s more that Bridge can do….but there are a lot of caveats….and it takes some patience to really make effective use of the other tools.
maybe that will be helpful to you….
