Editing mp4 makes file size much bigger
I was emailed a little :15 video clip to which I wanted to add a :06 jingle. No biggy on the edit, just cropped some of the audio and squeezed the jingle in at the end. When I went to output it, the file size jumped from 2MB to 18MB. It was an mp4 file, resolution was something weird like 700×404 or something (don’t quote me on that, but it was something like that).
As far as the output settings, I used H.264 as the preset (choosing mp4 from the dropdown list forced the resolution to a smaller size for some reason, so I didn’t use it) and chose the “Match source” for the other options. The only way I could get the output file size down to a reasonable 5MB was to choose a medium bitrate. It didn’t appear to affect the video quality, so I went with it. However, this isn’t the answer. Was the original mp4 that was sent possibly compressed using an expensive hardware compressor/encoder, maybe? I don’t understand why adding a simple :06 jingle could make the file size jump so high.
Facepalm.
