    Hi all,

I’m looking for an efficient workflow for editing 4k footage shot on C300 MKII. The footage specs are as follows…

    Video:
    4K 4096 x 2160 (1.0)
    24fps
    XAVC
    Captured at
    10-bit 4:2:2
    410Mbps

    Audio:
24-bit-4 Channel mapped to 4 Mono.

    My machine is…
    iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)
    4 GHz Intel Core i7
    32 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
    AMD Radeon R9 M395X 4096 MB

I am aware of the fact the drives Im running from are only 5200rpm connected via usb3.

I do have a 1TB LaCie d2 Quadra Hard Disk eSATA 3Gbits USB Firewire 400 & 800 but I’m not sure if that drive is 7200rpm and I would have to invest in either a thunderbolt to firewire 800 adapter or USB 3 to esata.

I’ve considering transcoding the content to something like prores hq but not sure if this will smooth playback in premiere.

I don’t have budget for new drives so ideally want to use my existing ones.

Any suggestions for best editing workflows in this format would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Ben

Was the proxy functionality of the C300 Mark II used? I use this all the time, edit from the proxies, then reconnect to the material at the end.

Only time I do not use proxies is for the 10-bit 4:2:2 modes (50 and 160Mbps flavors).

    Hi Gary,

Thanks for getting back to me. No, we didn’t use this feature. We shot at 10 bit 4:2:2 but the bit rate was 410 Mbps I believe.
Is the proxy feature where you can record onto sd cards?

I’ve been checking the footage in premier and noticed some lag but I now think this may be the fact I’m running from a usb 3 – 5200rpm drive.

One thing both my DOP and I found interesting is the fact you have to change the cameras system frequency to be able to shoot at 24fps.

Yes, it records low bitrate 8-bit 4:2:0 footage for you to edit with.

Hi, How do you edit with the proxies and the relink to the hi res files? The proxy files have a P after them which stops the files from relinking at least in Resolve anyway.

Hi, what software are you using to edit? What drives are you using and how are they connected?
