  Premiere Pro – hanging and spinning and hanging and spinning… please advise.

  Hi

  Thanks for your attention.
  I’m relatively new to Premiere Pro and have the misfortune of editing a lengthy wedding video that due to family issues is extremely important now and help would be greatly appreciated.

  Tech stuff first I guess;

  Macbook pro 2.66GHz Intel Core Duo
  4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
  NVIDIA GeForce 9400 & 9600GT
  Premiere Pro CS5

  Footage is .MOV from Canon 60D and .Mpeg2 from Canon XHA1

  All was going well, all footage on timeline synched together with sound and was working through cutting between the cameras.
  There is around 1hr 45min of footage on the timeline (around 5hrs in project bins) and I am 25mins in having done a lot of cutting, a bit of grading and a bit of rotation and zooming to correct clips as I have gone along.
  This morning the project kept giving me the spinning wheel and ‘media pending’ whenever I did anything so I closed it down and maybe too hastily followed some advice to clean the adobe media cache.
  I let it take it’s time to re-index everything when I restarted it and at first it seemed ok.
  I trimmed a clip and it jammed up again and since then I have not been able to do anything without it spinning. Activity monitor says Premiere is not responding then it begins to respond again if I leave it a while. It peaks at about 108% of CPU

  So basically I can leave it for an hour to load but then it just freezes when I do change anything.
  Is it just too much for this laptop? I didn’t think it should be.
  If so, should i separate it into 4 different projects and can I import the timeline and source clips straight over to these new projects as well?

  Very sorry for the excessive rambling. Any advice would be great.

  Just about to order another 4GB of RAM by the way, guessing that’ll help.

  I’m just an amateur with premiere pro too, but I think upgrading your processor would help or maybe even eliminate your problem.

  I’d say: yes. Your Macbook is pretty ancient in the CPU, RAM and GPU department especially when dealing with CPU intensive stuff as H264. Also you didn’t say anything about your storage.

  Where are you storing your media files and render files?
