  Choppy video playback and freezing up using CS3

  Hello,

  I am experiencing some very choppy playback and some freezing up for a few seconds at a time when editing HD video using CS3.

  I’m frustrated because just bought a brand new laptop for the very purpose of avoiding this issue. Can someone please help?? Do I need to upgrade to CS5??

  I have my laptop set to high performance battery mode, and I am not editing a lot of content (less than 10 mins of video, not a lot of edits). The video is choppy even when fully rendered.

  Here are the specs of my laptop:
  2nd Gen Intel Quad Core i7 2670QM (2.2GHz) processor
  8GB DDR3, 750GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive
  1GB Radeon HD6770M GDDR5

  The type of video I am editing is 1920×1080 24fps shot from a Canon T3i then transcoded to .AVI using Neo Scene from CineForm.

  Ok, I think I’ve narrowed down the problem:

  The problem seems to occur AFTER I’ve rendered. Before I render, the video preview is very smooth.

  After reading the PP User guide: I think my File Format & Compressor Settings (in Previews) are wrong, but I can not figure out a configuration that doesn’t make it choppy.

  I’ve read that if you don’t use Adobe’s custom program settings, you can experience choppy playback. I’m using 1920×1080 square pixels 24fps. Is there a file format and compressor settings that will work? Is there some sort of codec that can download to fix this?

  BTW: My options for File format are:
  Video for Windows, Uncompressed 8 bit, Uncompressed 10 bit

  Options for Compressor (with Video for Windows):
  Cinepak Codec by Radius
  Go-Pro Cineform Codec
  Intel IYUV codec
  Microsoft RLE
  Microsoft Video 1
  Uncompressed UVYV 422 8 Bit
  None

  I hope I hope I’m on the right track here.
