Novice Question About Audio
Posted by Bok Toh on September 9, 2011 at 2:27 pmHello all:
I am trying to insert an audio track but it’s letting me insert onto “Audio 5” only. Does anyone know why?
Here are my settings:
Editing mode: P2 1080i/1080p 60Hz DVCPROHD
Video: 1280 x 1080 (1.5)
29.97 fps
48000 Hz – StereoThanks!
Toh

September 9, 2011 at 3:38 pmIn Premiere, each audio track is of a certain sort — mono, dual mono, dual stereo, surround sound, etc. The type of audio that you’re putting on the track needs to match with the type of audio that the particular track expects. My guess is that you are putting a mono track into the timeline, and audio tracks 1-4 are all stereo, or vice versa….
You can modify how Premiere interprets the audio for a particular clip by right clicking it in the project window and choosing Modify–>Audio…. (or something like that). Note that as soon as a clip has been inserted into a timeline, you CANNOT change the audio type. You need to import the audio as a new clip, then interpret, then edit.
If you’re coming from FCP, this will feel a bit unusual for a while….

September 12, 2011 at 5:47 pmYou can delete the empty audio tracks so that the NEW track is not pushed way down to the bottom. Right click on the left where it says “Audio 1” and choose “delete unused”
