  Newbie PPCS5.5 question about ProRes

  Greetings, all.

  My company is about to replace a 10 year old nle. Looks like it’s coming down to FCP or PPCS5.5. My preference is Premiere, though I have never used it. From what I can understand, due to propriety, if you ever need to import or export any of the ProRes flavors, you must have FCP installed on your editing station, even if you never plan on using FCP. Is this correct? And that automatically means you must have a Mac, and not a PC system. But for Quicktime files, either system is fine?

  Yes, either platform is fine for QuickTime.

  To generate ProRes you have to be on a Mac and you need a copy of any of the ProApps. The cheapest is Logic Studio.

  But you can absolutely handle ProRes, cross platform without a mac and without owning FCP
