  DEVIL or DEEP BLUE SEA?

  Hi,

  I have a 30 minute PP CS4 (PC) project from footage recorded on a Sony TM300 (PAL) camcorder (1080/50i), which I would like to export in MPEG2 format…ok (yawn) that is the boring bit, now:

  when I look at the MPEG2 export options there seem to be two likely candidates but neither of them are 1080/50i:

  option 1) MPEG2 1440 x 1080i high quality
  this option 1 is interlaced that is good: same as my input format; but provides a lower resolution than my 1920 x 1080 input format: not so good

  option 2) HDTV 1080p 25 high quality
  progessive (bad: not same as my input format); but provides the same 1920 x 1080 resolution as my input format: good

  As far as I can see there is no option for 1920 x 1080 interlaced. Maybe I am not looking in the right place?

  What I want to do is to create a high quality master file for storage and playback on my computer and for saving as a backup.

  So my question is that as none of the export presets seem to fit the 1080/50i format of my input material which export option should I choose, and more importantly why?

  or should I dive into the murky underbelly of the beast and attempt to juggle the daunting array of custom options?

  OK so now I tried the interlaced option and can see that it was a dumb move for anything but interlaced playback. Does this really mean there is no other alternative for export for computer playback than choosing progressive and ?dumping about half the interlaced data? from my AVCHD files
