How should I adjust my audio? I see that there is a reference at the right side of Premiere Pro’s screen but I don’t know what level should my audio go/ peak. Hope someone can help. God bless!

    Hi Ryan,

I think in general that keeping the audio to about -6dB is pretty much a standard setting to go by

    -6db is the peak?

It’s a bit science and a bit art. I also suggest running talking voices at -6 (usually with some soft compression like 2.5:1 to even out the peaks) because if you add foley or background music, it’ll have enough headroom so the meters don’t peak at 0db (remember waves add together and amplify, so that’s why low background music will still raise the db level). It’s a pretty decent rule of thumb for dialog scenes and interviews, but it’s open to interpretation.

Of course, you should always record as hot (loud) as possible and then mix down to whatever volume you’re using, since this will increase the signal to noise ratio and result in a cleaner recording.
