I’m editing a project with CS4 using a One Beyond laptop. Recently I’ve had to move that project from the One Beyond to a Mac. Now, the .wmv files used in my timeline are not being recognized in CS4 on the Mac. I can, however, read these same .wmv files if I open them on the Mac directly from the external hard drive they and my project are stored on. My question is, why won’t CS4 read .wmv’s on the Mac? It may be a setting I need to change or something with the program. I don’t know. I greatly appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

I’m a bit behind the times, as I’m still using PP1.5. But, generally you should use files that are in an editing format (uncompressed, HUFFY, etc.) and not a delivery format, such as WMV.
Sorry I don’t have a more specific response to your question.

Vincent is right, editing with WMV isn’t recommended, it’s kind of like walking through a dark room with all the furniture rearranged.

I can’t tell you why they aren’t recognized.

But, in order to keep working with them, find a converter for wmv on the mac. Something that will convert them without compression/quality loss/etc.

I’m not familiar with CS4 on the mac (or CS4 at all, since I skipped it), but if you have Adobe Media Encoder, you may be able to convert them using that excellent tool and keep working with them.

If not, find a friend who can convert them…probably to .mov files.

But do it losslessly, unless you’re not worried about the quality or precision of your edits at all.
