  Streaming video poor quality problem

  My company is working in Adobe Premiere to output a sequence of FRAPS videos and audio to a streaming version on our website.

  We have tried H.264, FLV, and everything comes up with poor quality. Encodings also hang when at a low bitrate, less than 4Mbps. Encoding at higher works just fine, but this is too high for streaming.

  We have also tried Flix Pro and other software to attempt encoding a MPEG2 output from Adobe Premiere to a streaming FLV or H.264 version. This has also resulted in poor quality.

  Any suggestions would be great on what settings to use that will work and have great quality. Our streaming service has a limit of 1.5Mbps, but from what we understand this is high anyway?

  Both H64 and FLV are quite capable of good video. Are you trying to render full resolution video? If so, try reducing the frame size to as little as 1/4 screen.

  Fraps uses a proprietary codec. I use AVS Video Converter to decompress Fraps prior to edit.
  Maybe try to Export for Web directly from QuickTime using the Desktop settings.

  Also, when doing compression tests, it might be useful to prepare a 5-second clip to do the testing with, as opposed to testing with full length clips. It’s much quicker and you can test more settings.
