  Unlocking clips in the timeline..

  Hi there,

  This may seem like a stupid question btu I’ve not used premiere for years and now I’m trying to edit a video I can’t remember how or even if its possible to unsync video clips from the timecode in the timeline. I can only move the clip in line with where the timeline figures are. So the clip is close to where I want it but if I move it it goes too far and snaps to the next point on the timeline. Is there a way of unlocking the clips from the timecode or even making the timecode to shorter degrees?

  I hope that makes sense, help please!

  (I’m using premiere 6 with windows XP)

  Clip frames will always snap to the timeline frames, it’s a good thing.

  If your issue is with clips snapping together, you can zoom in (+) or Alt+arrow to move clips.
  Also, you could disable snap. It’s the button that looks like a magnet, near the top left of the timeline.

  I will often position the CTI to the exact frame where I want to snap to (the CTI can also be moved with the arrow keys).

  Vince thanks for your reply! Now wondering how to export widescreen. I have a video thats been shot and edited in widescreen but when I go to export it it puts all the footage to the top of the screen and leaves a black line underneath. Do you know how I can change the settings so that it comes out in the middle with black lines either side?

  I have tried ‘interpret footage’ which I read from another blog but it makes no difference.
