  Best settings for stills made into video

  Hello,
  I am having some issues with getting the best quality video made out of a series of still images. I have the images in the timeline with super-imposed titles and dissolve transitions. I want the exported output file to be windows media. I would like to know which settings to use for the highest quality wma movie made of still images. Right now, the video I am exporting looks low quality, the super imposed titles look fuzzy and video is choppy with some flickering.

  The final project needs to be played on a 40 inch plasma screen.

  I am just looking for the best settings to use when creating the project, and best settings when exporting. I just need a smooth high-quality professional looking slideshow windows media movie.

  Generally flickering is seen only on CRTs. If your stills are from interlaced video you should deinterlace them, and if that is not enough I recommend you try this Photoshop action…

  If your titles are created in Premiere, try adding Effect/Blur 0.

  I’m not sure of the frame size of you plasma display, I usually work in DV with a frame size of 720×480. Your project should be set to a standard frame size.

  As far as output to WMV try…
  File/Export/Adobe Media Encoder
  Format: Windows Media
  Presets: Choose a WM9 setting that is appropriate to your frame size and frame rate, I use NTSC.
  Under ‘Audiences’ adjust the basic video (and audio) settings to match your project. Than click ‘Advanced Mode’ and increase your bitrate to maybe 2560 or something, maybe more or less.

  I’d turn off ‘Scale Clips to Project Dimensions’ in your project settings. Reset all of the images motion parameters to 100% (in the Effects Control tab), and use Video Effect/Distort/Transform for resizing. It uses a better interpolation method.
  Apply Video Effect/Blur/Gaussian Blur – 0 to the titles. It forces a better quality rendering.

  As for the the encoding, a bigger frame size is generally better. Since your doing a desktop video, you could use any size, but I’d stick with a standard format such as DV or even an HD size.
  Use a standard film or broadcast frame-rate.
  The project and export should be Progressive.
  Use 2-Pass VBR encoding.
  Image Quality 100%.
  Set the bitrate at 2560kbps, to start. Do a test encoding of a 10-second portion, and see how it looks. Just keep bumping up the bitrate until you find one that suits your needs.
