I was a mac user for 20 years and I decided to move to Windows 10. I just built my own PC! I used to edit in Final Cut Pro 7 and Premiere CC 2015 on the Mac. Some old file from circa 2008 were shot on DV and saved as .mov files.
It’s a little bit of a jungle, I read some posts on this formats, but I still couldn’t find a solution.
Apple Quicktime doesn’t work on Windows 10. Is there a codec free or not that could be installed in Windows 10 to read such formats?
I used to know the latest about editing 10 years ago, but I am really a newby on Windows!

If it is DV .mov, Premiere Pro should be able to natively read the file. Does it not work for you in Premiere Pro?

I just verified a few DV .mov files in Premiere Pro CC 2015 on my Windows 10 system with no QuickTime installed. They import and play without any issues.

If the file are not DV but rather HDV, see some suggestions here:

(By the way, you can in fact install QuickTime on Windows 10, but it won’t help you with QuickTime-wrapped HDV or XDCAM.)

    thanks for getting back.
    1) Some of the footage was shot with a Canon HV30 HDV. My files have no extension, could this be the problem? Here is a screen grab: it plays OK via VLC app.
    2) Another Apple quicktime show a codec named RLE. Doesn’t open in Premiere, but opens in VLC.
    3) another file without the .mov extension called “Apple Intermediate Codec (icod)” opens in VLC but not Premiere
