  • Any way to reset the User Order in Icon bin Sort?

Posted by Scott Clements on December 3, 2015 at 2:18 pm

    Hi,

I have hundreds of clips that I wish to view as icons in bins, in the order the shots are in the final movie. However, the shot numbers are not in chronological oder. If I list a temporary order in one of the metadata fields, is there any way to sort by that field and then create a new user order, based on that sort? Unfortunately, the user order seems to be saved permanently. So, I can’t sort by list and then save that as a user order than then start organising again.

Yes- right next to the icon size slider is a “up and down” looking icon- that reveals the sort criteria.

Thanks, Steve, but that’s not actually what I’m looking for. “User Order” is when you manually move stuff around. Once you do this, Premiere saves it (seemingly forever). If you then sort alphabetically and then want to sort yourself, when you switch to “User order” you go right back to what it was when you set it before.

If it’s a user organized mode then what would be the place it would “reset” to? It’s either organized by a criteria or sorted by the user. AFAIK there’s no hybrid mode.

hmmm…. that’s frustrating. Thanks for confirming. Once you sort it in user mode, you’re basically locked into whatever crazy order you last put it in. There’s no way to “start fresh” from an different organisational method and then sort yourself again.

You could submit this as a feature request Scott if you’re so inclined… one possible implementation would be that any time you’re viewing a bin in Icon View mode, regardless of the currently selected sort order, if you manually drag a clip and move it to a different position then you are by that action switching to “User Order” and simultaneously setting your (new) user order based on the current arrangement.

Yes, that would be a good way to do it. Thanks!
