  Merging clip with audio makes it mono

  Hi! I have a problem when merging a video I took with my camera and an audio file I recorded separately. The audio file is stereo and it is essential that it will stay that way but when I merge the clip with the audio it turns it into a two channel mono. It mixes both the channels then creates two mono channels. How do I stop it from doing that?
  Can’t it just merge the video with the audio as it is?

  When you indicated you “merge” them, do you mean you are placing them together on the timeline?

  If so. . .

  Before you place the audio in the timeline, right-click it in the bin. Select “Modify” and set up the audio to appear in the timeline the way you want it to be.

  No, I choose them both and select “merge clips” to replace the original audio.
  I also found out that if I pan the audio mixer ch.1 to far left and ch.2 to far right that seems to fix it. But why does it do that?
