3840×2160 source and Premiere defaults to 1440×1080?
I have a 3840×2160 video from my Samsung Galaxy S6. When I dragged it into Premiere Pro CS6, it asked if I wanted to match the sequence settings. I say yes. Now when I export and choose “Match Sequence Settings”, the Source says 3840×2160, but the Output says 1440×1080. Why would it do that?
I’m also confused about the video’s 29.68 fps frame rate… that’s kind of odd. Necessary?
And, I tried to customize the export using H.264 MP4, but I couldn’t manually make it 3840×2160. Can Premiere Pro CS6 not handle that size export? Why is this so difficult?

I eventually changed the H.264 profile to “High” and messed with other settings I wasn’t very sure about. Then, it let me increase the resolution. I think the quality is pretty good, but I think it’s bad that I had to guess and tinker around just to get the output to be a similar resolution to the source.

Phones usually use a variable frame rate compression which is kinda bad because NLE’s do not work with variable frame rates. Quite possibly the sound will drift away from sync at some point.

Using variable frame rate footage from cell phone and having problems in Premiere? I just had this issue and found a software solution: Handbrake. It’s open source, free. Basically you use it to transcode variable frame rate footage to constant frame rate footage. Audio and video now sync in Premiere. I’ve only used it once and it was on HD 1080 footage but it worked like a charm.
