how to change position of a layer without moving the matte
Hi guys
I’ll be editing an add on Premiere tomorrow and I’ll use split screens.
I’m doing some tests to find the easiest way to workWhen I make split screens in After Effect I always create a solid and use it as an alpha channel of the layer below so I can move the picture without moving the split screen or even change the picture without loosing the split screen.
Well … I want to do the same thing with premiere (we won’t have the time to constantly jump from premiere to AE while editing) but I can’t find the way to do it. If I use a “set matte” or a “track matte”, when I move the layer it also moves the matte (as if I simply added a mask on my layer)
Any ideas ???

Nest the split layer.
then do the move inside the nest…hth,

Hopefully soon Adobe will give you the option to invoke a switch on TRACK MATTE KEY that will allow you to NOT TRACK. Then you can cut a hole and fill the hole and move the fill around to your hearts content. Until then it will always be a frustration and a consumer of valuable time.

Thanx for your answers. Axel, yes, that’s what I wanted to avoid. When we edit it’s always annoying to loose time switching from one timeline to an other, but I’ll do that, it’s the less worse solution 🙂 Thanx for the tip
Jerry, good news! It seems that I’m not the only one asking for that option. I’ll have to wait for the next split screen editing to test it though !!!

remember you can always do you move in primary sequence before nesting the clip.
then you add track matte to the nest container clip.
certainly not ideal…and should be addressable by Adobe.
