  • Dynamic Link – Premiere to After Effects?

    Hi,

I just started using the Production Suite and understand that you can import AE project files into Premiere but can you import Premiere projects into AE?

Usually I cut to music and use markers as a guide for the beat. What I want to do is import a Premiere project into AE with the markers intact if possible.

My workaround is time consuming. I export the sequence from Premiere as a .avi then import that and re-create my markers for the clip in AE.

What workflow is appropriate for going from Premiere to After Effects?

    Thanks

You should be able to import all Premiere projects into AE including markers, basic crossfades and audio. However, the overall number of markers is limited in AE, so you will never have them all at once.

I have tried to import the Premiere Project file into After Effects but it crashes each time.

Do you mean I can copy from Premiere and Paste into AE?

From what I can see there is no dynamic link option to import a Premiere project.

Copy&Paste should work as well. Dunno why it’s giving you crashes. Perhaps you are using a video hardware with associated CoDec that AE doesn’t like? For the time being, Dynamic Link only works one way – from AE to other programs. There is no such thing as a perfect roundtrip implementation though I can see that some people would like to have it.

[jason banker] “What workflow is appropriate for going from Premiere to After Effects?”

    In After Effects:
File > Import > (select PPRO project)

If that doesn’t work, what type of media are you using in your project? How was the media acquired?

Dynamic Link only works in the one direction: import AE projects into Premiere Pro (or Encore).

The crashing problem you’re having when importing the Premiere Pro project into AE is probably this:
