  Are there keyboard shortcuts in PPro for these things ?

  So I’m trying to use more of the keyboard and less of mouse.
  All PP editors – can you tell me for which tasks do you use the mouse /can’t be avoided ?

  This is how I’d typically edit:

  1) I’ll use Shift+1/2/3/4etc to keep switching betweek project panel/timeline,source monitor ,etc

  2) But If I wanna select ONLY video or Audio from a clip – I don’t seem to be able to do this with keyboard ? Or can I ? I have to use the mouse to click on the video-only/audio-only buttons and manually DRAG it to the timeline-which is a bit annoying ..unlike in Avid where you can just do this based on which tracks are active/selected

  3) Here the selection of tracks/target traks doesnt work like Avid – even if we unselect a video/audio track ..and then splice in a clip ,still both audio AND video get added to timeline..any tips to speed up this process ?
  or I have to manually LOCK the tracks which I dont want and then add clips

  4) TRIMMING – Again similar to my above point, while I’m using the keyboard,and I wanna trim only the audio /video (J/L cuts) I have to use my mouse to either unlink the clip.then choose only the specific audio/video track and then trim right ?

  You can ‘toggle source’ and ‘toggle target’ tracks (although for source you can only toggle all I think.)

  You can also ‘move all audio sources’ up and down – to marry them up with targets

  There is no ‘autopatch’ – it is sorely missing and asking at adobe.com/go/wish will help get it there

  I find locking the best way with FCP7 to be sure.

  There is some strange behaviour to get used to in PPro.

  Target track status seems to be ignored for insert/overwrite purposes – it is all dealt with by the source side.

  The source tracks can be ‘ON’ ‘OFF’ or ‘GAP’. If set to ‘GAP’ then they will overwrite/insert filler on the target side.

  The target tracks are used for lift / extract and other sequence side trims.

  If you have just target track V1 selected using the ‘trim edit’ shortcut enables a rolling trim on that track only.

  Hey man, 4 years later, I hope you’re still around. I just found this thread and something you said is very interesting to me. From time to time, there are situations where the ability to insert filler in order to push clips on the right-side of an edit further down the timeline by an arbitrary amount would be quite helpful.

  How do you set source tracks to ‘gap’, I’ve found no other mention of this anywhere other than your post. Would doing this be like inserting filler?

  I know it’s already possible to achieve what I want without the need for using filler to create gaps. You can lasso select all clips that need to be moved in this manner and drag with the mouse or move by a typed timecode value. Or if the timeline is long and complex you can also use the select track(s) forward tool to achieve the same thing without needing to zoom out too much. However, there are times when it would be faster or less disruptive to flow, to simply be able to specify the duration of some filler and then ripple it in to the timeline at a precise spot, thus creating a gap of arbitrary size and pushing clips to the right of this insert point; further along the timeline. The main usefulness of this approach is that if you have your sync locks arranged in a specific manner than you can reliably predict what will and won’t be affected by the insert edit of this filler and therefore ripple forward only certain select tracks without the need to specifically go through and click to specify which ones you want with the select track(s) forward tool. It also just ‘feels’ better to me.
