Ok , so i have to say I’m finding a lot to like about premiere but i have a couple of questions regarding trim mode.

When you enter trim mode deselecting AV tracks has no effect, so you can’t deselect the audio and just roll back the video for example. If you deselect a track before entering trim mode however it maintains the relationship and only puts rollers on the selected tracks. Is this this right?

Is there a way to have the slip functionality with keystrokes and not by using the mouse, I know you you can slip 1 or many frames with keystrokes but you only seem to get the slip monitor when using the slip tool with the mouse- like FCP.

Anyone with a bit of an Avid background will probably guess that I’m really asking if it can work like Avid’s trim mode because it’s pretty close and these couple of points are just stopping it from being perfect.

Well the ‘target tracks’ buttons have no effect once you are in trim mode.
You can select/deselect with your pointing device by Shift+Command and clicking on the relevant side/centre for ripple/roll variations.
So in the simplest V1A1 roll trim – shift+command+click on centre of A1 edit to remove it from the trim and just roll the video.

The keystrokes will slip (you must have the clip selected, unlike Avid) but the 4-up display does only seem to appear when slipping with the mouse.

Agreed that it’s close to the Avid trimming, but not quite there yet. adobe.com/go/wish – they do seem to listen

The other bit that annoys me when trimming is that the timeline panel doesn’t update… i.e. the CTI doesn’t play across the edit

    Hi Trevor,

Thanks for responding, at least I’m not missing anything then.

The trim tools are easily the most important toolset for me when it comes to NLE’s so hopefully they’ll improve this in the future, especially the slip tool because using the mouse is just awful.
