  Premiere Pro – Mixed Media

  Hey all,

  I’ve been working with premiere for a year now (editing on other NLEs for about 7). Do people find it better to convert files before hand? I’m doing a lot of projects with mixed media and sometimes the timeline really crunch down S L O W.

  Just wondering what everyones best practices are?

  Appreciate any input, opinions and discussions.

  Hi Tom,

  Would help if we knew what type of media, sequence setting used, and computer hardware being used. For instance, some GoPro clips can bog down any computer – those are better to convert first using the Studio software.

  Media is totally mixed. I work with an ever changing type of formats. .mp4 .mov .mxf – the last edit i worked on had media from minicams, f5, fs700, GoPro, 5D, GH4.

  I have a range of machines; Latest MacBookPro Retina (top spec), Latest iMac (top spec), and a 2012 Mac Pro. All of which struggle.

  Sequence settings is a good question. Often i drag the media into the new sequence option to set those up. I edit all sorts of media but will always go with the primary camera.

  Mainly wondering if when people use mixed media they convert to something like ProRes to unify the formats which presumably cut Premiere some slack.
