Some weeks ago I placed a post here in the forum. Please refer to this post for the topic.

I found a similar post here:

In the meantime we went on using PP 2014 but now we are going to stop to use it. This bug is not acceptable for us any longer. And because it is on several workstations, on freelancer MacBookPros, with several kinds of ingesting and storing P2 footage and it happen on projects which are fine for a week but then suddenly this bug comes. We have no solution!!! We tried a lot but as long as it is not reproducible we have no chance to find out why this happens.
It happens with direct ingest from card with prelude and premiere and with the normal way of ingesting with Media ShotPut Pro on our central server. The P2 footage is ok.

So, we are now editing in CC 2013 and Final Cut Pro X.

Sometimes, in 2 out of 5 times, deleting the cache helps. But then, after some days of editing, the problems come back.

We have our workflow with storing the P2 data on a separate server since years and had no problem so far. It happens with local storage, too.

But there is even more: Since some days, in the Media Browser some P2 cards are not showing any content. This is with a MacPro 2013 and on a Windows PC. The media is located on a local RAID, no network is involved. If I open a new project everything is fine. If I went back to the old project, the P2 folder shows no content.

No problems with CC2013, no problems with FCPX. So it is just with 2014.

It looks like not many editors have this problem. Maybe it is because P2 is not their main format.

Anybody using P2 without problems with CC 2014?

Any idea from the forum or from the adobe guys around here?

    Thanks
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
Sorry to see that you’re having trouble with these files. Have you filed a bug report? Here’s the link: https://adobe.ly/ReportBug

Since you are hitting a problem not many others are, there might be something in your system causing the issue. How are you importing the P2 footage? Are you using the Media Browser? Inspect the clip properties. Is there anything odd that stands out? Did this work in previous versions of CC?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Hi Michael,

Sorry you have encountered this issue. Thank you for the report. We were able to reproduce this issue and are now in the process of determining the cause. Please understand that this is not always a quick and easy process.

We will do our best to provide a fix as soon as we’re able.

Again very sorry for the inconvenience.

[Michael Hoefler] “It looks like not many editors have this problem. Maybe it is because P2 is not their main format.

I will say it’s VERY rare for us anymore to get footage from P2 cameras. But obviously Adobe needs to address the issue as there are still a lot of P2 cameras around.

I know when we were having all sorts of issues with Tape Capture / Master to Tape a while back, we were one of the few still doing that. But they worked through the issues and gave us a really solid workflow for that which we still use from time to time.

So they will fix it, especially since Peter says they have reproduced the issue. Just some things will take more time than others.

Hello Peter, Hello Walter, Hello Kevin

Thanks a lot for the replies!!! We are very happy and appreciate it a lot that Adobe is responding so fast on a bug. Even if this bug concerns just a small group of customers.

    @Kevin
Thanks for the link. I will post another bug with Media Encoder and Dynamic Linking next week there. It”s not critical. But I don”t think it is a problem on our side, too. I never found a hint for bug reporting. Is it well hidden or is it so prominent that I missed it through the daily editing madness?

    @Peter
We will go on with the CC 2013 for editing. But we really like the new version and all the new features. Hopefully you can fix this soon. I think for some projects I will rewrap the mxf to mov and use these files for editing with CC 2014 because I like it much more.
I will ask our camera people which P2 cameras were used. We have several still in use and this will take some time. Maybe end of next week I can tell. Maybe all is related to one camera. I don”t know yet.

    @Walter
Thanks for your contribution to this forum in general. I always like to read your comments and your blogs.
Yes, P2 is now rare. But we have these cameras and they still do their work. And we are in a corporate business and for a lot of meeting stuff they are still ok.

    @Adobe
We came from FCP Legacy and even we liked, and like FCP X, we decided to go with CC, I think 3 years ago. The reason was the integration with all other Adobe apps and the lack of FCP X editors and the fear that some old fart editors would have problems to adapt 🙂
Overall we are very!!! happy with the kind CC evolved. The tools are great and Adobe is going to develop these application further in a good way. That”s my feeling.
But, one big request. We and our freelance editors are running in total 7 CC subscriptions here in Germany and Switzerland. First, these subscriptions are more expensive than in the US. Why? Adobe is here unique in a bad sense. Adobe should think about their price model. It is not fair. And, like for photographers, offer a unique video editing and compositing bundle. This would really make CC a perfect choice.

    Have a good weekend.

I am going to stop using CC 2014 as well. I haven’t experienced your specific issue as I haven’t worked with P2 footage in years, but several other serious issues in Premiere + AE 2014. Back to CC until they are fixed

I am having problems with Pr CC 2014 and P2 media also. I also had some issue in the previous version of Pr cc where P2 footage suddenly wend offline for no apparent reasons.

    Hello Peter

I made a test today with the new release of CC. Ingest P2 Footage with Prelude and the bug is not solved. Still no audio sound after some time.

So, what should we do? P2 is our format we produce with. I really don’t understand this issue. It worked fine till the CC 2014 versions come up.

    Any help?

    Hi Michael,

I posted to another thread and did not remember to post here as well. I’m sorry for that.

Here’s the link to the other thread which discusses the same issue. I’ll copy my response below.

    https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/3/956211

Sorry again for the frustration and time this has caused. A co-worker of mine did a bit more investigation and was able to isolate two related scenarios that led to a condition similar if not identical to what was reported.

Scenario A: Clip was touched by 7.x
Import a spanned P2 clip (AVC-I or DVCPRO) into CC7.x.
Insert a clip marker or revise any XMP metadata. (This results in an XMP file being written to the CLIP folder under CONTENT.)
Import the same P2 clip into CC2014.x.

Scenario B: Clip has an XMP file but no media cache files (specifically the .pek files)
Import a spanned P2 clip without an XMP file into CC2014.x
Insert a clip marker or revise any XMP metadata.
    Save and close the project.
    Clear the media cache files
Either reload the same project, or create a new one and import the same spanned P2 clip.

In both of these scenarios, we observed two issues:
    A) the audio waveform is incomplete
    B) no audio plays for the segment of the clip without a waveform.

In our testing, closing and reloading the project fixed the issue with the missing audio at the end of the clip. However, the waveform remained incomplete.
A workaround to get the full waveform is to delete the XMP file and the .pek files for the affected clips. Be aware that clearing the XMP will erase all markers and other metadata that is saved to the XMP file.

Just to emphasize, the issues we identified are limited to P2 clips that span two or more MXF files in CONTENT/VIDEO.

Please let us know if neither of the scenarios above apply in your case, if complete audio isn’t restored by closing & reloading the project, or if deleting the XMP and .pek files does not yield a complete audio waveform.

    Hi Peter

None of the scenarios applied in our case. The Audio is restored but not the waveforms.
We will start now to transcode to ProRes or CineForm prior to editing. So we can use the new version.
Still hope you get it fixed some day.

    Thanks

    Hi Peter
Sorry, me gain. So, it’s getting nasty. I had to edit a multi cam project. Source was ProRes video. The source videos all had nice waveforms but not the multi cam timeline. Deleting cash file didn’t help, changing workstations didn’t help. Nothing changed my empty audio track. After 1h trying I gave up and started inFCP X.
Peter, I really want to use Pr. All the new features are nice. But to have audio waveforms is “bread and butter”, it’s essential.

    Michael

    update:
I started today this project with CC (Pr7.2.2). I setup the multi cam and all the waveform are perfect. Did some cuts. Then, I opened this project in the new Pr CC 2014. So, now all the waveforms are visible. But, do I have confidence, that the waveforms are still there when I open the project over one week of work and several cut and versions? No.
