  • Exported Vegas projects to Premiere files, but they crash when opened

Posted by Tyler Kemp on August 6, 2014 at 3:02 pm

Hi everyone, I have used Sony Vegas for several years and am making the transition to Premiere due to the added capabilities.

There are some projects I would like to keep from Vegas, at least the work I’ve done cutting up the footage and stuff. Vegas has an option to export to a Premiere/After Effects file, yet when I open them in Premiere the program crashes immediately.

    Any ideas?

Vegas can only export to a Premiere project file that was valid for versions of Premiere that existed at the time that that particular version of Vegas was issued. Perhaps you’re trying to open a Vegas-exported Premiere project in a version of Premiere that is more advanced(chronologically), and some incompatibilities have been introduced.

Have you tried exporting a Final Cut Pro 7 XML from Vegas and importing that into Premiere Pro?

The first reply was correct, I was trying to export to CC 2014, when I tried with Premiere CS6 it works correctly!
