  “unknown recorder error”

  I can’t Capture HDV footage in Premiere.

  I have a Sony HDV15P Deck connection via firewire adapter to brand new iMac

  I can roll the tape, but nothing comes on the screen, when I hit record I get the “unknown recorder error”.

  I can capture from the same deck using DVCAM fine and I can capture to HDV into FCPX with the same deck fine.

  I’ve blown away Adobe CC 2014 and reinstalled, and still the same.

  Any ideas?

  I had this problem before with PP 5 on Mac and couldn’t fix it. I used FCP for importing.

  Now I’m using Premiere CC and could capture fine until I tried while connected to my Thunderbolt display (with external hard drives, etc. hooked up to the display) . I got Unknown Recorder Error. Unplugged the Thunderbolt display and things are fine.

  Not exactly your problem, but I thought I should share…
