I just got a HP xw4300 with a Pentium 4 (3.2 gig processor) and 1 GIG of ram. I would like to make my RAM previews faster, I think the simple answer would be to add 1 more GIG of RAM. My question is, do you think this would be a big help, or is there a better solution. I work with a lot of HD video.

Well, from what I’ve heard, GridIron Nuclear Pro does a pretty decent job. Or you could increase your RAM by a value of 1.

Nucleo is good. I use it.

Regarding RAM, I think the idea of more RAM making things faster is a holdover from the days where using less RAM might result in dog-slow writing to disk once all the RAM is used up. AE doesn’t work that way. When you run out of RAM, your RAM preview stops caching frames and plays back the frames it has.

More RAM will, however, allow you to create longer RAM previews for a given image size and resolution, allow you to work with more apps open, and allow you to work with bigger source files.

If you want things to speed up, you should get Nucleo, get a faster processor and/or use OpenGL in some situations.
