  • What sequence settings should I be editing in?

Posted by Andy Collins on February 10, 2014 at 7:15 pm

    Hello,
We recently switched over our editing solutions from Mac (Final Cut) to PC (Adobe Premiere). When using Final Cut, I had always set the sequence settings to DV-NTSC Anamorphic. These settings were the default for captured DV footage. Well, now that we’ve switched to Premiere, and I’m shooting a lot of stuff with a 7D (sometimes still using DV), what sequence settings should I use? Should I just go with the prompt about “changing sequence settings”? Or should I always default to whatever I shot the footage with/in? And if so, what happens when the footage is coming from multiple sources? Should I use settings for where the majority of footage is coming from?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

[Andy Collins] “I’m shooting a lot of stuff with a 7D (sometimes still using DV), what sequence settings should I use?”

Use the DSLR settings that match your frame rate. There is one called “DLSR.”

[Andy Collins] “Should I just go with the prompt about “changing sequence settings”?”

That works…same as it did in FCP. QUick way to get the settings to match.

[Andy Collins] “Or should I always default to whatever I shot the footage with/in?”

Either way. Whatever works best for you.

[Andy Collins] “And if so, what happens when the footage is coming from multiple sources?”

Choose the dominant source as the settings. Or choose the one that is closest to your delivery specs.

[Andy Collins] “Should I use settings for where the majority of footage is coming from?”

    That’s what I do.
