    Hullo!

I’m having some problems when I record at 50i in my camera and then try to export the file the same way in Premiere. A picture is worth a thousand words of an illiterate fool:

    Clip imported into Premiere:

Same video exported at MPEG2 1080i 25 in Premiere:

I’m temporarily using a borrowed JVC HM100 until I hope the more user friendly Canon XF100 arrives this week, but I have had a lot of problems with the HM100 not importing well into Premiere despite it having native MOV files. I don’t know where I’m going wrong.

    Thanks for reading,
    Paul.

It’s is normal, because you see interlaced footage on a computer monitor. Premiere use only one field in canvas or source monitor, in an exported QT (on a computer monitor) you see both field. What about the exported footage on a broadcast monitor (or television)?

Hi Massimo, thanks for your reply. But I’m not sure it’s what you say, this is really really exaggerated and I don’t think it compares to other videos that I’ve seen on Youtube recorded at 50i (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKDB6y5zmDc).

It’s like it thinks its 1080i but it’s really a different resolution, that’s how bad the image looks. My XF100 arrives tomorrow, so I’ll have a look at what happens when I import footage from that at 1080/50i.

Hi paul. this effect depends also from camera movement. more the camera moves, the more the effect will be visible. I you publish on youtube, try export a de-interlaced movie.

Hi again Massimo. If I deinterlace the film it looks fine, but itsn’t that effectively turning it from a 50i film into a 25p film?

[Paul Walsh] “If I deinterlace the film it looks fine,”
    What you mean?
What do you do to make this?
