We started a documentary project on Pr and need to move it to Avid. Footage is shot on XDCam and AVCHD. We were advised to bring in everything and transcode in Avid, because AMA linking can become troublesome on larger projects. So now we have the problem with exporting and bringing in Sequences.

The AAF export from Pr CC does not work properly. Avid thinks it is DV-Pal size, and will not relink. We have tried exporting XML to FCP7 and using Automatic Duck to create AAF for Avid. This works better, but Avid will still not relink to the footage – and I guess this is because Avid treats the footage as MXF files with separated video and audio, while Premiere refers to a single file containing both video and audio.

Tried relinking in Premiere to the Avid media files, and then create the AAF, but it still doesn’t work. Also tried to use AME to transcode to DnxHD, but Avid cannot recognise audio on those files, so that is not a solution either…

Have you tried save as legacy and/or embed audio?

How far along is the edit?

I suggest using AMA to access and transcode all of the camera raw into Avid first. Then export an EDL of the cut in Premiere, and recut in Avid. Or…can an AAF from Premiere then be DUCKED or BORIS’d over to Avid, to get the sequence in, but not linked to media, and then recut?

I fear you might spend so much time mucking about trying to get the sequence over and connected to the right media, and fail, and might need to do this anyway. FCP to Avid, no issue with Boris or the Duck. Dennis, since Wes is now over there, does he think it will work with Premiere sequences?

The issue with getting the media to relink is that Premiere only works native, and Avid doesn’t, and you can’t really get the sequence over and linked to media because Avid doesn’t see the raw files unless you AMA.

We tried to import an EDL into AVID but no luck. Is there a way to do this outside the import function? Of course I could simply print the EDL and enter all the time codes manually, but that would a hazzle. Also I cannot see how and where you can enter timecode IN and OUT points numerically in Avid.

Click on monitor, type number, press IN.

I cannot see how it is possible to get a timecode dialog box. Nothing happens when I click in the monitor viewer : (
