  • Connect to Primary Storyline (Q) in FCPX – in Premier?

    Hey all,

Long time lurker, first time poster – thanks to all who have helped me so far – little you knew.

I used the Q hotkey continuously in FCPX – it places the clip from the source monitor above the primary storyline without moving anything else out of place. You could arrange a whole interview and then just smash your cutaways in with Q and then fine edit.

In the case of Premier – I just want to insert the source clip into a track where my sequence line is with a hotkey. E.g:
    – Make an interview edit on track 1.
    – A bin with all my cutaways in.
    – I get a track from here in the source viewer, in out points.
    – highlight track 2
    – place my sequence line where I was the clip to begin on that track
    – smack [THE HOTKEY] and it goes from the source monitor to set point.

Please let me know if this is possible.

    Cheers.

Those concepts are unique to X. There are no story lines or connections in Premiere. What you want in “overwrite.” Process is similar. But it’s more like pressing D in X (also called overwrite). Mark an in/out on the source. Mark an in in the sequence. Patch your tracks so they clip is going to the track you wish. Press the overwrite button/key. (it’s period or comma, I forget) In overwrite mode it’s going to erase whatever is on the track at that location. Nothing moves out of the way in Premiere and conventional edit apps.
