I have been commissioned to do an anaglyph 3D project for a client. So far it is going well but they would like to see any text in the project really look like it’s coming out of the frame. To achieve this effect to the best of AE’s abilities, would I need to adjust the convergence on the plug-in or the depth of field on the camera or something else entirely? Any help would be most appreciated.

    Thanks

Mmh, that may be tricky. Your problem is that AE layers don’t have any depth, hence there is no way to properly assign different depth values for each eye. The closer you get to the camera, the less precise it gets. I think the only way to get this “pop-in-my-eyes-’til-it-hurts” impression would be using a 3D program – because you’d use real 3D text with side faces, you almost automatically get a better impression of 3D (which of course is not just valid for this specific task ;o) ).
