  • Trying to open Premier Pro CC file on CS6 but project is damaged

Posted by Alexandre Brandt on September 10, 2013 at 6:55 pm

    Hello,

I’m trying to open a Premier Pro CC file in CS6 in order to do some work on another computer but I get the message “The project appears to be damaged, it cannot be opened”. So right now I’m pretty much blocked because I can’t edit on my laptop which is not powerful anought for that type of project and I cannot edit on a great MacPro tower that I have access to that only has CS6 because I cannot open the file. This is a pretty ridiculous situation. Is there a way to fix that issue so I can fix that premier pro file ?

    Thanks

    Hi Alexandre,
Do you have a hard back up, or an auto saved project in the auto save folder?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Hello Kevin,

    Thank you for your reply.
Yes I have auto saved projects.
I had my issue since a while now and the auto saved projects will be in the same conditions.
When I noticed my issue, I was able to continue working on CC and had to move forward with my edit but its now that I’m getting stuck.

    Thanks

    Hi Alexandre,
Reading a little more closely, I can understand the warning better. You won’t be able to open a Premiere Pro CC project in CS6. You might try exporting an XML file and import that.

    Hope that helps,
    Kevin

You can’t do this. CC PPro is not backwards compatible to CS6 and never will be. Backwards compatibility is only available in a few CC APs, like AE for instance.

    Hello,

I tried. It fails because when importing the XML I get message saying (more or less) that it cannot recognize the sequence preset and footage format.

But it is a bad thing for Adobe that XML does not work either. Have you tried an AAF export?

I’m curious to know what type of media it is…is it something supported in CC but not CS6 by chance?

Its mainly HDV 1080 25p in M2T files and WAV audio files. I have some Animation codec and some Apple Pro Res 422 (HQ). Thats it.

Just tried. So the first operation that Premier does is “simplifying” the project. The the status bar for AAF export comes but it never starts. I cancelled after 3,4 minutes. How long is it supposed to take ?

    Thanks
