Adope Suite – PDF form for meta-data
Hello,
We have our meta-data information that is on .MOV’s and AVCHD video clips in a fairly large project (~3000 clips). This being said it is my understanding that the meta-data is CLIP based not PROJECT based (if this makes any difference in how I should address this).
The client is looking for a printable way to view (and ideally search) through the meta-data for their own records so they can know what we have and they can pull from.
I’ve looked through some ways of doing this via:
-XML to Excel
-Using Adobe Bridge
-XML to Avid (works but not the right data, its in a custom schema)We haven’t had any luck yet finding the correct answer. Does anyone have any experience using Adobe software to convert meta-data to a paper/printable form?

I have not tried it. From what I can see in Bridge CS6, you can only export Metadata one file at a time – if you select multiple files, Export is greyed out.

I just found a script for Bridge which claims to export to CSV (compatible with Excel) format. I haven’t tried it yet, but here’s the link:

I just ran a test on the script – anyone who wants to test, or who knows JavaScript and might want to tweak it –
Open Bridge, in Preferences, show location of Startup Scripts – put the Script in that folder.
When you restart Bridge, you can select multiple files, and when you right click, you’ll see the Script listed at the bottom of the rollout.
Click it, and you’ll be presented with a menu – make sure that you provide a folder name, provide a filename with lowercase “csv” file extension, and then click the boxes you want exported. It’s very basic, and all I got to export was the full path. I’ll have to explore where it’s taking the Metadata from.
My Javascripting capabilities are basically nill, so if anyone wants to jump on this, the link to the script is above. I’m going to play around in my spare time.

Sorry to bury you in information, but I’m working my way through this, know very little JavaScript. I did manage to find a link to the IPTC Schema that this script is drawing upon. It would be possible to put the information you want your client to have, and fool the IPTC Schema into providing different data. You’d just have to know where you’re planning to put the data – for example, in the Description field, you could put the TimeCode, Shoot Location, etc..
