Premiere CC – FCP 7 Switcher Questions
I’ve been editing with FCP Classic for over 10 years, staying up late tonight to dive into Premiere CC. Seeing if I can make this work for an animation/animatc workflow… (I edit for a few animated TV shows, as we bring in more editors we’re finding FCP 7 licenses are hard to come by!)
I’m setting it up so (most) keyboard shortcuts work like they did in Final Cut 7. A few issues I can’t seem to figure out, maybe somebody has an answer?
• One I use the pen tool to create keyframes on a clip, I cannot raise or lower the clip audio levels using a key command. Only when there aren’t any keyframes. In FCP, this didn’t matter.
• Blading a Title does not create a new title clip. Any solutions besides duplicating the item in the bin? It’s much easier to blade a title in the timeline and modify a label. (Useful for labeling shot numbers in animation)
• Scrub timeline without pitching up
• Cannot match frame a freeze frame in the viewer, or change a freeze frame’s duration. Because I work in animation, I freeze frame quite a bit. In FCP 7, I would SHIFT+N to create a freeze frame, then drag out a duration.
• Is there an easy way to see an audio clips volume without opening it up?

That’s not how the title tool works in Premiere Pro. You can’t just split a title like we used to in FCP.
You simply open the title, then click on the “Create New Title from current” or whatever that says in the upper left side of the title tool and create your new title. You can keep repeating this with the Title Tool open and create a batch of titles at once.
If you’re labeling shots in Animation, easiest way to do this would be to create a Bin for your titles, then create them all one after the other in the Title tool first. Then you’ll have them all ready before you start the edit and just drag them in as you need them.

Would be great, since I also edited for 13 years on FCP and have to dive into a new software now.
Even though, funny enough, my first 2 years as editor I worked with PPro 1 back then. But it changed a little since then 😉Greetings,

Why would anyone want their titles in a bin? Honest question. This used to be the first thing I turned off in Avid land.

For organizational purposes. Premiere Pro puts all the titles into your Project Browser so either they’re all sitting out in the Browser or you put them into a bin to keep them neat.

Also worked in Premiere before FCP. I’m enjoying Premiere CC, there are just a few things I really need to do that I can’t figure out (above). Literally trying to do exactly what I did at work yesterday, just with different software.

I am also in the process of switching over, but we do a lot of animations with PSD files. In FCP7, I would bring in the PSD and it can open as a sequence (with each layer retaining it’s original layer size). But in Premiere CC, I bring it in as a sequence but each layer is now the size of the whole PSD.
eg.
My 1920×1080 PSD is a talking head with eyebrows and eyes and mouth. I have a layer for eyebrows, eyes and mouth all separate. When I bring in to FCP7, all those layers have the bounding box just around each element. In Premiere, each layer is 1920×1080 and the bounding box is the size of the whole PSD.Is there a way to import as sequence while retaining layer sizes? I know AE can do it.
Also is there a way to adjust the anchor point similar to using the pan behind too in AE? I want to move the anchor point without moving my layer (so I can just keyframe rotation).
